EU settlement Scheme

If you’re an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen, you and your family can apply to the EU Settlement Scheme to continue living in the UK after 30 June 2021.

What is pre-settled status?

If you have been a UK resident for less than five years, you may be eligible for ‘pre-settled’

status. The EU citizen will be able to change to settled status once you have been a UK resident for more than five years.

How can I apply & who is eligible?

You must apply for the EU Settlement Scheme using the online application form, and the relevant process set out in that form for providing proof of identity and nationality through the use of the identity verification app.

you need to apply if:

  • you’re an EU, EEA or Swiss citizens

  • you’re not an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen, but your family member is

This means you need to apply even if you:

  • were born in the UK but are not a British citizen

  • have a UK ‘permanent residence document’

  • are a family member of an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen who does not need to apply - including if they’re from Ireland

  • are an EU, EEA or Swiss citizen with a British citizen family member

What is the deadline for applications?

The EU Settlement Scheme is open for applications now.

The deadline for applying will be 30 June 2021, or 31 December 2020 if the UK leaves the EU without a deal.
